A Two-day Eye Camp at Dugadda, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand

Eye Camp Report 4, 5 December 2011

A free eye clinic was organized at Dugadda at an altitude of 932 meter ASL in the district of Pauri Garhwal situated in the midst of beautiful mountainous range of Uttarakhand, called land of angels. The clinic was organized in Geetanjali Public School, Dugadda, Kotdwar on 8th & 9th December 2012 by Raj Vidya Kender, sponsored by The Prem Rawat Foundation and Premsagar Foundation.

The clinic was inaugurated by Mr. Surendra Singh Negi, Minister of Medical, Health and Family Welfare. Mr. Surender Singh said, "Raj Vidya Kender has done a significant charitable work for the people in this remote hill area, where health services are not easily available here.

Eyes of 1417 people were examined and 1280 were given free specs and 4141 units of eye drops distributed. 89 people were found suffering from cataract, who were advised for treatment in the local govt. hospital.

The beneficiaries expressed that it was a great gift to them that they could get their eyes examined and got the specs and medicines free of charge. They thanked the organizers from the core of their heart. People and doctors in general praised the system and performance of the camp.

 

A Two-day Eye Camp at village Pamshala, Jashpur, Chhattisgarh

Eye Camp Report 4, 5 December 2011

A two-day eye clinic was organized on 1st and 2nd December, 2012 at the village Pamshala, Tapkara, district Jaspur; 250 km away from the capital Raipur. The clinic was organized by Raj Vidya Kender with full cooperation from Prem Rawat Foundation and Prem Sagar Foundation. Eyes of 1175 people were tested and specs distributed to 590 needy people and 728 units of eye drops also given. 108 people were found suffering from cataract who were advised by the doctors to take treatment from District Hospital.

The clinic was inaugurated by the local legislator Shri Bharat Say Paikra. Speaking on this occasion Shri Say said that there was a dire need of such an eye clinic in this aboriginal area. The clinic was managed by two doctors and five refractionists.

 

A Two-day Eye Camp at Murliganj, Madhepura, Bihar

Eye Camp Report 4, 5 December 2011

A free eye clinic was organized by Raj Vidya Kender, The Prem Rawat Foundation and Prem Sagar Foundation at K.P. College Murliganj in a remote area of district Madhepura, Bihar on 24th and 25th of November 2012. Eyes of more than 1200 people were tested and 1314 eye drops as well as 331 spectacles and medicines were given to the needy. 92 people were found suffering from cataract.

Shri K.S. Ojha, Principal of K.P.College inaugurating the clinic and acknowledged its need for scarcity stricken poor people. A team of three eye-specialists and five technicians worked very hard for two days and tested the eyes of all those who came into the clinic.

 

A Two-day Eye Camp at village Sonpura, Palamu, Jharkhand

Eye Camp Report 4, 5 December 2011

An Eye Clinic was organized by Raj Vidya Kender, sponsored by The Prem Rawat Foundation and The Prem Sagar Foundation in village Sonpura, Baliari, river side Tikulia, district Palamu, Jharkhand on 17 & 18 November 2012.

In all 4 doctors, 7 supervisors and 65 volunteers managed the clinic both days. Beneficiaries from 57 villages from around 25 km radius attended the clinic. 902 specs and 516 Eye drops medicines were issued free of cost as prescribed by doctors. 214 eye cataract cases were detected; they were advised for treatment in the govt. hospital.

 

A Two-day Eye Camp at village Sathariy, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh

A two-days Eye Clinic was organized at Sathariya village in district Jaunpur of Uttar Pradesh on 3rd & 4th March 2012. Inaugurating the clinic, Shri Pradeep Kumar Singh, the Chairman of Indian Industries Association said that Raj Vidya Kender has done a great job to help the poor and needy people by organizing the free Eye Clinic for them. "Many thanks to the organizers," he added.

The village head of Sathariya village, Shri Rambali Yadav appreciated this venture and said that it is a matter of privilege for them that the organization has chosen their village for this camp. Some of the people covered a distance of 75 km to take the benefit from this clinic. Over all the needy people from 19 villages got relief. Eyes of 1519 people were examined in this camp, out of which 1042 people were provided free spectacles and 1333 were given free eye drops. 61 people were diagnosed of suffering from Cataract.

Ram Agya, aged 60 years, village Birdhaulpur said, "I like the arrangement, I have got the specs and medicines. I have seen such camp for the first time in my life.”

 

A Two-day Eye Camp at village Kukru, Saraikela, Jharkhand

Eye Camp Report 4, 5 December 2011

Saraikela is located in a remote area of Jharkhand, inhabited mostly by poor people. A two-days Eye Clinic was organized at village Kukru, District Saraikela, Jharkhand on 25th & 26th Feb, 2012. The camp was inaugurated by Smt Kaushalya Devi, the head of village Panchayat. The eyes of 1698 people were examined, 1261 people were provided free spectacles and 639 people were given free eye drops. A total no of 162 people were diagnosed of having Cataract.

People from surrounding villages of Darwada, Letenda, Barapapang, Chhatlapang, Nutan Dih, Kukri, Panda etc came here for their eye check up in the camp. A team of four eye specialist doctors and five Refractionists provided medical support in this camp. Dr. CBP Singh from MGM Medical College said, that he was overwhelmed to participate in the eye camp organized in this remote area. He wished that more such camps were organized in other such rural areas in the region.

Duro, aged 70 years of village Bakarkudi said that he was very happy with the arrangements. It is like a boon for the people, who fail to examine their eyes due to poverty.

 

A Two-day Eye Camp at village Simri, Buxar, Bihar

Eye Camp Report 4, 5 December 2011

Dr. Sadashiv Pandey the Medical in-charge of Simri Health Centre inaugurated a two-day eye camp organised in the campus of Simri Higher Secondary School, at Buxar in the state of Bihar. He said, “It is a very well organised eye camp. Such eye camps are rarely organised. I am deputing one of my doctors for their help.”

More than 1200 people turned up for their eye check up and treatment from 30 adjacent villages. Out of 1200 people examined, 726 were given free specs and 822 were given free eye drops and medicines. 52 people were diagnosed of having cataract.

Mr. Ganesh Singh from village Padepat said. “I am feeling very good. I am very happy because I got specs. I thank the organizers for the same.” Mr. Sudershan Thakur from village Ballia said, “The arrangement here is very good. My eyes were checked and I got the medicines too. People are very well behaved. The care which is given here is so good that we can get at home only.”

 

A Two-day Eye Camp at village Tetarkala, Sundargarh, Orissa

In the remote area of Orissa in a village called, Tetarkala, which is about 100 kms away from Sundargarh town, another two-day Eye Clinic was organized. The endeavour of organizing this camp in the presence of two experienced doctors and six refractionists along with the coordinators of the Society was praised by one and all. In this camp the eyes of 1348 people were examined, 1450 eye drops, and in addition, 773 specs were provided to poor and needy people free of cost.

The Head of the village said, “In our village people are so poor that they cannot afford to visit doctors for their eye check-ups. These people really suffer due to lack of treatment and specs. He further expressed his gratitude for the organizers for making such a good arrangement in the eye camp for the poor people of this area.”

People came to this camp from far-flung areas, covering a distance of more than 30 kms, for their eye check-ups. Shanti Singh from village Phooljahdi said, “I was having problem in my eyes, but couldn’t go to the town for check-ups. I came here covering 30 kms to be benefitted by this camp. The patients were treated very well here. The doctor examined my eyes and gave me free medicines & specs. This camp proved to be a boon for me.”

 

A Two-day Eye Camp at village Malga, Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh

A two-day Eye Clinic was organized at village Malga, a tribal and remote area in district Singrauli of Madhya Pradesh, India. The people attended the Eye clinic from the villages falling in a radius of about 40 km from this camp. Eyes of 1877 people were checked in two days. 734 people were given free spectacles and 1768 were provided free medicines. It was found that 536 patients were suffering from cataract. Doctors advised them to get operated.

Mayor of Singrauli, Ms. Renu Shah inaugurated the Eye camp. In her inaugural speech, she appreciated the efforts made by the organizers. She said that in the districts of this aboriginal area, the public undertakings of Central Government like NTPC and Coal Co., NCL organize eye camps, but in such remote areas like village Malga the camps of this standard are not organized. This was properly managed and run in disciplined manner. Ms. Renu Shah further said that by this eye camp the villagers and aborigines have been largely benefited. "This kind of eye camps must be organized every year.”

The people who came for their eyes’ check up, appreciated the arrangements as a whole. Mr. Sheetla Prasad, an 80 year old person coming from 35 km away from this place, said, “I am very poor man. The volunteers in the camp helped me a lot in getting my eyes checked. Doctors checked my eyes, gave me spectacles and medicines.”

 

A Two-day Eye Camp at Bantoli, Ranchi

Ranchi. A two–day free eye camp was accomplished successfully in a remote aboriginal area at village Bantoli near Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand. The camp was organized by Raj Vidya Kender with the cooperation of Prem Sagar Foundation and Prem Rawat Foundation. In this camp around one thousand one hundred people from 50 villages turned up for their eye treatment. Eyes of 1053 persons were checked and tested. 646 persons were given spectacles and 849 were given eye drops. There is a real dearth of medical facilities in this extremely backward area which is about 60 km away from Ranchi. Raj Vidya Kender has been organizing free eye camp in this area for the last seven years regularly. This free camp proves to be a boon for the people of this area and so people wait for it, months in advance.

The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Devsharan Bhagat, advisor to the Jharkhand government, on 3rd December. Appreciating the excellent arrangement available at the camp he said, “It is beyond imagination to have a free eye camp, for the people facing lack of every facility, in such a remote as well as backward area.” He further said, “Raj Vidya Kender deserves thanks because of providing those facilities and arrangements that are only possible in big hospitals. I am deeply impressed by the dedication of the doctors and volunteers for registering the patients, taking care of all the desired needs humbly, respectfully and sincerely with a feeling of caring as well as service.” He added, "Patients' eyes are checked, tested and spectacles are being given free respectfully.”

Dr. Shailendra Kumar, the eye surgeon at the camp expressed as, “Raj Vidya Kender have made excellent arrangements for the check-up of the eyes of the patients. The poor were given spectacles after proper check-up of their eyes. The volunteers cooperated wholeheartedly and fully with the medical team as well as the patients.” Appreciating the organisers, other doctors of the medical team also said, “Organizing a free eye camp in this extremely backward area for the poor is a great service to the humanity. It is a matter of pleasure that Raj Vidya Kender has been doing this work for the last many years for the people of this area.”

Expressions from Patients
Mr. Shishu Uraon from village Hindipidi, who came to this eye camp said, “I had blurred vision in my both eyes. Doctors in the camp checked and tested my eyes and gave me the spectacles. I had been suffering from this eye problem since long but due to not having money I could not go to the city and get the treatment. Now, after getting this spectacle I have full and clear vision. I am really happy and thank the organisers.”

Like this, Mrs. Indu Devi from the village Garhgaon said, “I was unable to get my eyes treated due to lack of funds. One of my friends told me about this camp. After the eyes checked-up I have gotten the spectacles and now I can see well and clear.” She further added, “Raj Vidya Kender has been doing selfless service for we poor people and have filled new hopes in our lives. The arrangements made in the camp were extraordinary and the behaviour of the doctors and volunteers were very cooperative, sweet and full of goodwill.”

Raj Vidya Kender organises Food for People programme at Bantoli, in which 500 children get free good quality food every day .

 

A Two-day Eye Camp Concluded in Gaya

Organizing a free eye camp at a very remote place known as Pindra-Cherki in Gaya, Bihar; famous for emancipation of manes all over the world, was a subject of news amongst people. This camp was organized by Raj Vidya Kender on 26th and 27th November 2011with the help of The Prem Rawat Foundation and Prem Sagar Foundation. Around one thousand three hundred people from Pindra and thirty villages in the vicinity turned up at the venue, got their eyes tested and thanked their fate.

The inauguration was done by the senior officer of the district Dr. Farasat Husain in the presence of local dignitaries. Appreciating the efforts made by Raj Vidya Kender, Dr. Husain said, “By organizing the free eye camp in this extremely backward area the poor and helpless have been benefited a lot, for due to non-availability of the timely treatment the villagers suffer from many chronic diseases.”

Expressions from Patients
Mr. Shambhu Sharan, who came from Beraini-Cherki,10 km away from the venue, said, “After getting my eyes tested I feel highly obliged and very happy at heart. I could not get my eyes treated due to long queues at the hospitals. Here, the well known eye surgeons tested and checked my eyes, gave eye drops and spectacles for free.”

Mrs. Sugni Devi from Piprahi said, “The doctors checked my eyes and gave me medicines. In this area the hospital is 20 km away and therefore during serious illnesses medical facilities are not available here. Eye hospital is far-far away from here. That facility is only available at the main district hospital.” She further said, “Having organized this camp in such a backward area the Raj Vidya Kender has done a great beneficence of all the poor like us."

The local people thanked Raj Vidya Kender for this eye camp and requested the organizers to arrange such free camps in future also.


A Two-day Eye Camp at village Siktahi, Mirzapur

Eye Camp Report 19, 20 November 2011

Mirzapur. An Eye Camp for free check-up and treatment was organised by Raj Vidya Kender at village Siktahi, Kotwa Pandey, Distt. Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh on November 19 and 20, 2011. The venue was about 25 km away from the city and the village in which this eye camp was organised covered a radius of 10 km area around it.

Around 1500 people from 25 neighbouring villages participated in this eye camp. Though every patient was suffering from one or the other eye problem yet had a smile on one’s face owing to having faith of getting the best possible aid and advice free for one of the most precious parts of the body i.e. eye.

Around 1300 patients were examined, 972 were given spectacles, 1246 got eye drops and 170 were diagnosed suffering from cataract. This camp used to start at 10:30 AM and continue up to 5:00 PM.

The eye camp was inaugurated by Shri Vishram Yadav, SDM. Addressing the audience he said, “We are thankful to Raj Vidya Kender for this eye camp. In our area there are many people who are really poor and we are extremely happy to see such a big arrangement for their welfare and service. On behalf of the whole staff of our Tehsil, I thank The Prem Rawat Foundation, the Doctors and their staff for this eye camp.”

Expressions from Patients
A patient, Mrs. Saraswati from village Gopalpur, after getting her eyes tested and gotten medicines etc. free expressed her views, “Two volunteers came and gave invitation card to me and told the dates and days of the eye camp. I came here to get my eyes tested and checked for vision. The doctor gave me the medicines and spectacles. Now I can see well through these glasses. I had never imagined that in such a dense forest this kind of facility can be available for poor people like us. Many many thanks to each and everyone.”

One of the patients Mr. Dev Narayan from village Danti said,” I am happy. Got information about this eye camp through the villagers. I am feeling better now. Got the medicines and spectacles.”

An old lady Mrs. Sudha from Danti said,” I got the spectacles. The villagers informed me about the eye camp. The volunteers here treated me very well. Everything is nice here.”

“Earlier my vision was blurred. But now I am seeing much clearer. I have come bare footed all along from about 5 km.” said Rajdhari from village Patehra.

“With a lot of good wishes I pray the Almighty to get such a grand opportunity of service every year. I liked all the arrangements made here and appreciate the efforts of all those who did it. I wish and pray the God who may help have many such camps under S.N. Flags Foundation” expressed Dr. A.K. Pandey

“Dr. M.A.Khan said, “I attended this camp and felt very good here. I request all the organisers to have such kind of camps in future for sure so that we go on getting opportunities to serve.”

People of Hardoi delighted by Eye Camp

Eye Camp Report 12,13 November 2011

Hardoi, On November 12 and 13, 2011 a free eye camp was organised by Raj Vidya Kender at Hardoi. It is one of the most backward districts of Uttar Pradesh. For the last two years this whole district has been badly affected due to flood. Owing to poverty people are unable to take care of their health. By getting their eyes tested for free in this eye camp, the poor were delighted. Around two thousand people turned up to get their eyes checked up in this two-days camp organised at DSCL Sugar Mill, Roopapur. People, from the adjacent area of 60 km range and distant 50 villages, came into this camp for treatment. Their eyes were tested and 859 people were given spectacles free of cost. A full cooperation was rendered to Raj Vidya Kender by Prem Sagar Foundation and The Prem Rawat Foundation.

The camp was inaugurated by the District Magistrate Mr. A.K. Singh Rathore. He appreciated the efforts put in by Raj Vidya Kender. He said, “By getting the needy people’s eyes tested of this extremely backward area, Raj Vidya Kender has done an exemplary and imitable job. We all know that the eye is one of the most invaluable gifts the nature has bestowed us and therefore its care is of utmost importance but due to ignorance, lack of facilities and poverty its care gets neglected here and people suffer. Thus the efforts made by Raj Vidya Kender in organizing this free eye camp in this extremely backward area is commendable for in this area, there is no eye hospital and people cannot go to main city for treatment."

Mr. B.L.Verma, Senior Manager, DSCL Sugar Mill, said, “This eye camp is the need of this area. The district headquarter is far off from here and hence people are unable to get their eyes checked. Around 250 people from our sugar mill and more than 60 people from this village got their eyes checked in this camp. He expressed his feelings saying, “I was deeply touched to know this that the organization have been arranging and organizing this type of camp all over the country for the last many years.”

Expressions from Patients
Patients from far off places participated quite enthusiastically in the camp. Most of them were overwhelmed seeing the discipline as well as the overall arrangement done by the volunteers.

Razia Begum said, “My eyes were tested and I was given eye drops and spectacles free of cost. This is a great gift to me from Raj Vidya Kender.”

Arunesh Kumar Vajpai said, “The volunteers of Raj Vidya Kender informed the people of about 60 villages regarding this free eye camp. This prior information led such a good rush and gathering of people for free treatment.” He again said, “For the helpless people of this severely flood–hit area, this camp of Raj Vidya Kender is no less than a boon.”

A Two-day Eye Camp at Kaladungi Nainital

Eye Camp Report 5,6 Novmeber 2011

Nainital is health resort of Uttarakhand. The district is known for beautiful lakes surrounded by green hills. Raj Vidya Kender, Delhi has been organizing Medical camps for eye checkups sponsored by Prem Sagar Foundation and The Prem Rawat Foundation for about a decade across the country for the benefit of needy general public. In the series of arranging such camps, this time it was the turn of a venue at Ramlila ground Kaladungi.

In Kaladungi there is no eye checkup specialized facility in a radius of about 100 km as such this significant camp came as a boon in their life. In this eye camp total 1817 people were examined and 936 specs and 1652 eye drops were distributed to them. 124 people were found to be suffering from cataract.

The eye checkup camp was inaugurated by doctor H. C. Tripathi, Medical Superintendent Kota Bagh in the morning of 5th November 2011. Dr. Tripathi was deeply impressed by the nice arrangements made by the team of doctors and volunteers of the organizers and praised the effort and their spirit of service to common man. He expressed satisfaction about the awareness level towards eye care which has been elevated by this camp.

The beneficiaries, visitors and observers gave their joyful expressions about the happenings and activities of the camp and the organizers.

Dr. Vijay Joshi of village Haldwani expressed his joy and stated that he felt very good in the camp. He said “I have never seen so many patients at any one place. I liked the management."

Shri Santosh Kumar Pandey, Tahsildar of Kaladungi expressed that the camp was organized for eye check up and requested the organizers to organize many more such camps in his area.

Smt. Laxmi Devi of village Gaiburva Kaladungi praised and thanked the organizers for medicines, spectacles and services free of cost, she said it was a rare opportunity for the people of this area.

Daya Devi who came from village Chakluva felt very grateful on thorough examination of her eyes followed by getting free medicine and spectacles. She said that she had never seen such courtesy and charity.

Manzi Begum and Nargis, the local inhabitants of Kaladungi from ward no. 7 and ward no 3 expressed that it was their first time experience of such nice arrangements of testing their eyes and receiving spectacles free of cost.

 

A Two-day Eye Camp in Raj Vidya Kender New Delhi

Eye Camp Report  January 2011

The Eye Camp organized by The Prem Rawat Foundation in collaboration with Prem Saagar Foundation in the premises of Raj Vidya Kender, New Delhi on 8th and 9th January 2011 was the 8th such camp in series. Incidentally, it was the coldest day of this winter season in Delhi on 8th Jan. when the camp started at 9.30 am and continued till 4.00 pm in the evening. The volunteers as well as professional medical team and the beneficiaries all had to brave the cold amidst dense fog. The camp was arranged in a beautiful spacious tents erected in the lawns of Raj Vidya Kender.

In all 15,039 people have enjoyed the benefit from the Eye Camp at Delhi since 2004 including 1235 people of this camp. In this camp, 898 specs and 940 eye drops were distributed to the needy people. The Eye Camp was systematically organized and planned. 27 volunteers braved the cold season to line up the beneficiaries for eye check-up and diagnosis, and for distribution of free specs and medicines.

The beneficiaries were mainly from poor and middle class strata of society who felt satisfied after passing through the arrangements and getting the benefit from the Camp.

Expressions from Patients
"I could enjoy the benefit of this Eye Camp only because I had received the information from one of the volunteers of the organization," said Than Singh of Chandanpur village.

Dayawati of Chandanhola expressed that she has been waiting for this camp for about a year because she missed her chance in the camp arranged last year.

Prema who came from village Fatehpur is happy after checking up of her eyes, she suggested that more people would have enjoyed the camp if it were arranged in summer season.

Ram Singh a poor man of Chhattarpur village said that he was having pain in his eyes but he was not able to get the treatment of his eyes from the outside as it is very costly. "But you are taking care of eyes free of cost and have given free specs. You did a lot for me."
